Position Summary
  • Provide age appropriate, time limited, crisis intervention as well as acute, chronic and preventive psychiatric care to students and eligible members of the University community.
  • Provide initial evaluation for psychopharmacological interventions based on the presenting concern, clinical interview, subjective questionnaires, and consultation with counseling staff.
  • Synthesize objective and subjective data to formulate a conceptualization of the client’s diagnoses, primary problem, and basic plan for medication management or other recommended intervention.
  • Make internal and external referrals as indicated following practice guidelines and general scope of service.
  • Use policies and procedures for tracking to ensure referrals are successful.
  • Establish collaborative working relationships that involve both the initiation and progression of an individualized treatment plan.
  • Support the collaborative care model through a consultative relationship with primary care providers through embedded Behavioral Care Managers as part of an integrated model with medical services.
  • Follow professional and organizational standards to document in the electronic health record.
  • Provide consultation to faculty/staff, student, and family members of students.
  • Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team including: involvement in performance improvement initiatives; provide input toward constructive solutions to work-place challenges; actively participating in required meetings; show respect for internal and external customers and; demonstrate sensitivity and appreciation of individual’s cultural diversity and individuality.
  • Obtain continuing education as required by law to maintain licensure.
  • Recognize that changes in the population will entail changes in duties and work expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Health Center is a large multi-specialty ambulatory care organization that is accredited by the Joint Commission with primary care medical home designation. All licensed clinicians at the University Health Center are members of our Medical Staff whose role is to ensure that care is evidence based and of the highest quality. The membership serves as exemplars of our student-centered service excellence culture.

Psychiatric Services are co-located with Counseling Services and the integrated delivery model for mental and behavioral health is organizationally identified as Counseling and Psychiatric Services ( CAPS ). As an agency, Counseling and Psychiatric Services ( CAPS ) is committed to the promotion and celebration of diversity in all of its forms.   • Completion of accredited psychiatric residency,
  • BC/BE in psychiatry.
  • Physician licensure in the State of Georgia required by date of first employment.
  • One year of clinical experience in a university counseling or mental health setting, and/or one year of experience as a consulting psychiatrist in a Collaborative Care Model or similar.
  • CPR / AED certification required within first year of employment
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • Training and 2 years or more of experience working with individuals from traditionally underserved populations – first generation, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, Latinx, rural, veterans.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Familiarity and skill with brief assessment and crisis intervention
  • 1 year or more supervisory experience
  • Completion of an accredited child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in a team environment.
  • Training and skills in providing telehealth services. Familiarity with accreditation (JC, APA, and/or IACS ) requirements and standards for site visit review.
  • Background working in a multidisciplinary setting.

Develop individualized treatment plans based on an investigation of empirically supported treatment options, make appropriate referrals, and accurately document treatment provided. Provide clinical supervision for psychiatric nurse practitioners, behavioral care managers and counselling staff. Work collegially with primary care staff and support the collaborative care model through a consultative relationship with primary care providers through embedded Behavioral Care Managers as part of an integrated model with medical services.
