Job Description

The College of Business (COB) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide (ERAU-W) welcomes applications for an innovative, collaborative, and energetic 10-month Faculty of the Practice (FOTP) position in Aviation Management. FOTP positions are key teaching positions within the college designed to bring industry experience to both courses and classrooms.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: revenue management, ancillary revenues, cost efficiency, and strategic models of aviation business. Faculty will teach with innovative academic technologies and delivery platforms almost entirely online. Courses reside within the College of Business and have a strong aviation and business focus. Faculty will bring their experience into the classroom and have a strong commitment to the academy and lifelong learning. The faculty member will also develop and maintain courses and update curricula as needed. Other areas of responsibility include participating professional development, service to the department assigned, College of Business, and University. Faculty must be willing to travel to attend meetings and conferences although travel is limited. This is a remote position where at-home office setup is required.

The Worldwide College of Business offers two Associate’s Degrees (Aviation Business Administration and Technical Management), six bachelor’s degrees (Aviation Business Administration, Business Analytics, Leadership, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Project Management and Technical Management), and eight master’s degrees (Business Administration in Aviation, Engineering Management, Information Security & Assurance, Leadership, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Management, Management Information Systems, and Project Management) Departments in the College are: Business Administration, Decision Sciences, and Management & Technology.

The successful candidate would be assigned to the Department of Business Administration (DBA). The DBA houses the Associates in Aviation Business, Bachelor of Science in the Aviation Business Administration (US News # 7, online Bachelor’s Business Program), and the Masters in Business Administration in Aviation (US News # 81 online MBA Program) and several undergraduate minors and graduate specializations.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements: A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in business, management, aviation, or related field is required as well as specific mid-level or above industry experience in one or more of the course focal areas as noted above. The candidate should show excellence in teaching where a teaching record exists and demonstrate a strong commitment and connection to industry, substantial industry experience, and a desire to give back to those seeking aviation management positions. Content creation is also important to online learning and knowledge sharing. Candidates must have a level of creativity and desire to engage with technology to create forward-facing academic and industry content.

Preferred requirements: A PhD or professional doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a core business/management discipline or a related field as well as specific industry experience in one or more of the course focal areas. Specific areas of knowledge that would be beneficial include high reliability organizations (HROs). Experience teaching online courses, participation in community organizations, participation in state/national professional or academic organizations is preferred. Strong candidates will be able to leverage aviation networks and interact with industry (aviation and non-aviation) and see the university as a bridge to industry and student occupational success. Candidates should be collegial professionals who view teaching and the aviation industry as both a hobby and a passion and enjoy all things aviation business related.
