Description/Job Summary

This is a 15 hour per week position within the Facilities Department, Physical Plant/Maintenance Division. As such the main duties will be performing journeyman level locksmith work requiring expertise in installing, maintaining, and repairing different types of building locks including cylindrical, unit, mortise and rim, and reload cylinders, as well as replaces and repairs panic hardware, door closures, ADA openers, locks on desks, file cabinets, display cases, and similar containers. The Locksmith cuts new or replacement keys and makes repairs of locks as required under emergency conditions. The Locksmith also maintains an adequate and appropriate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment and reports maintenance issues needing attention to the Assistant Vice President for Facilities and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Experience: Journeyman level locksmith experience (3-5 years) (required)
  • General mechanical ability, including the use of hand tools and power tools.
  • The ability to use and understand computer/email, as work orders are generated through a Maintenance Program, and certain communication is generated via electronic means.
  • The ability to climb ladders and if necessary to work at heights above 6 ft. with proper safety restraints.
  • The ability to work in all weather conditions and respond to inclement weather events and emergencies as needed.
  • The ability to read prints and schematics, for trouble shooting.
  • The ability to communicate, effectively and clearly with college personnel and students (Customers) as well as supervisory personnel, and contractors with relation to job related duties, both verbally and with the written word.
