Position Summary

The University at Buffalo, Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is now accepting applications for a full-time position of Clinical Instructor or Clinical Assistant Professor of Nutrition Science. We encourage applications from candidates who are historically underrepresented in academia. This is a 10-month, non-tenure track position and will begin in August 2022.

Position Responsibilities
Major responsibilities of this position are to:
  • Serve as program director
  • Teach undergraduate courses in the new undergraduate nutrition degree
  • Provide academic and career guidance/mentoring to students and teaching assistants
  • Curriculum development and systematic program review
  • Participate in service activities that contribute to the advancement of the department (e.g., Department, School, University, and Professional organizations), and demonstrate collegiality in all aspects of faculty engagement.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The successful candidate will bring a vision for adaptation and continuous quality improvement in teaching effectiveness and potential to assist in the design and development of new courses and/or course revisions.

About the Department:
The Department of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences is one of the academic units in the School of Public Health & Health Professions. There are well-established research programs and excellent facilities available within the Department and School. The Department offers a BS in Exercise Science, a BS/MS in Exercise Nutrition, a Dietetic Internship with Advanced (Graduate) Certificate, an MS degree in Athletic Training, MS degrees in Nutrition and Exercise Science, a combined Exercise Science BS/ MPH in Epidemiology and PhD degrees in Exercise Science and Nutrition. The Department is home to the Center for Research and Education in Special Environments ( CRESE ), which is a state of the art facility for performing research at altitude, depth, and extremes of temperature.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for appointment at Clinical Instructor Rank
  • Masters degree in nutrition or related discipline from an accredited academic institution of higher education
  • Credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist ( RDN ) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Evidence of teaching experience in nutrition or closely related areas such as biochemistry, pathophysiology of chronic diseases, epidemiology, or health behavior.
Minimum Qualifications for appointment at Clinical Assistant Professor Rank
  • Earned doctorate in nutrition or related discipline
  • Track record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in nutrition or related discipline (for Instructor Rank)
  • Postdoctoral research training
  • Record of peer-reviewed scientific publications consistent with experience
  • Relevant administrative experience in higher education
