Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure Track Position: Ceramic Sculpture

The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is seeking candidates for a tenure track faculty position in the Division of Ceramic Art at the rank of assistant or associate professor with an emphasis in ceramic sculpture.

The Division of Ceramic Art, within the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, has a distinguished history as a premier institution for education in the arts and fosters a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary environment for research and practice. The Division of Ceramic Art is comprised of six full time faculty and three full time technicians; The Robert Chapman Turner Teaching Fellow and the Randall International Chair. The scope of the Division of Ceramic Art is wide-ranging, embracing history and innovation through traditional genres and emerging forms of visual art/craft/design. The material intensive curriculum develops skill and intellect through theory, technological research and creative practice. Undergraduate and graduate programs are strongly intertwined. In our two-year MFA program, graduate students navigate wide-ranging practices in the visual arts.

The Division of Ceramic Art seeks a dynamic artist who will participate in shaping the future of ceramic art at Alfred. The successful candidate will have an active exhibition record and established recognition in the field; three years teaching experience or equivalent is preferred; salary will be commensurate with experience. We are seeking applicants engaged in ceramic sculpture, sculpture and/or installation, who's practice may intersect with-one or any combination of genres; design, performance, architecture, figuration etc. While the applicant's relationship to material specificity or plurality may be open and variable, interested candidates should be ambitious makers actively immersed in ceramic methodologies with an ability to speak to contemporary practice across media. Additionally, we encourage applicants with any of the following competencies or interests: craft/art/cultural theory; glaze chemistry/material science; digital methodologies/technologies; program conceptualizing and building. A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education is expected. We invite applicants from across the globe.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an M.F.A. in studio art or design or its equivalent, an active professional creative practice including a record of exhibitions and projects beyond the local and regional level. Three years previous college-level teaching experience or equivalent is preferred.
