Job Summary

RISD’s Center for Community Partnerships (CCP) seeks an Assistant Director to provide logistical support and expertise to the development of strong working relationships across campus, locally and nationally. Daily responsibilities will include responding to emails, tracking communications, managing the engagement database, as well as updating and populating the website. The Assistant Director, CCP is the point of contact for anyone who is interested in partnering with RISD and proactively engages within the campus and community-based organizations to support RISD’s academic mission, address public issues, build sustainable reciprocal partnerships, and foster civic participation.

We seek applications from candidates whose lived experience or professional practice engages historically marginalized communities. An understanding of current trends related to civic education is essential to this role and to furthering the service-centered, personalized approach of the Center. Essential Functions

  • Create and disseminate, through a variety of mediums, all CCP communications that encourage members of the internal and external community to be aware of the opportunities provided to them by RISD and to be active participants in civic engagement programs and activities. Gather and distill information for review by the Executive Director to inform the creation of the Center’s annual report.

  • Update and maintain the database (Raiser’s Edge) that houses partner and project activity; provide regular reports to the Executive Director to support stewardship of community partners and stay abreast of emerging demographic, social, cultural and recreational trends and best practices to identify opportunities for new or revised programming or approaches for RISD.

  • Responsible for the coordination and outreach to academic departments and faculty members as well as the coordination of professional development activities related to community-engaged and service-learning practices.

  • Provide support as the staff liaison to the Community Engagement Advisory Board, coordinating and facilitating meeting schedules, conducting benchmarking research, taking minutes and ensuring follow through on action items and next steps.

  • Organize events that are sponsored or supported by CCP and serve as liaison to community events sponsored by other offices at the college or museum. On behalf of the Executive Director, represent RISD in the community, attending municipal and neighborhood meetings, serving on community boards and organizations and attending community events as needed in order to gather and share information. Manage administrative duties of the Center, including financial processing, scheduling, routine correspondence and purchasing.

  • Stays abreast of emerging demographic, social, cultural and recreational trends and best practices, in order to identify opportunities for new or revised programming or approaches for RISD. Support governmental relations activities, preparing background briefings, providing scheduling support.

  • Oversee the hiring and supervision of graduate assistants and student workers in their daily assignments with eye toward creating a cohesive cohort of student community engagement ambassadors and leaders.



Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Commitment to centering inclusivity, diversity and equity in executing key responsibilities. Informed on current issues, trends, pedagogy and literature in global, civic and international education. A positive attitude and the ability to relate well to diverse populations and to help foster a community environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high impact, deadline-oriented environment where initiative, attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is required. Ability to proofread documents required. Ability to coordinate logistical arrangements and monitor budgets. Facility with technology and an aptitude for and interest in learning/utilizing new technologies.

  • In-depth agility in the use of Microsoft Office programs and project/event management tools.

  • General awareness of and sensitivity to graphic design software and tools and proficiency with Apple systems. Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and verbal and written communication skills. Customer relationship management tools preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Minimum three years community engagement, public affairs, or community programming experience.
