Summary of Job Duties:The Financial Aid Support Specialist will be responsible for assisting the general student population with the financial aid process which determines financial aid eligibility, with federal, state and institutional policies and procedures. This person may scan and index financial aid materials into the Banner system. They will work directly with prospective and current students and other offices on campus to ensure that consistent communication occurs. This person will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Director of Financial Aid – office management, special projects, multiple calendar management, daily mailings, and applications materials. Some duties may be sensitive and confidential in nature. This position is governed by institutional policy. Will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Financial Aid.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Formal education equivalent to a high school diploma
  • One year of experience in the secretarial/clerical field.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree
  • Experience in a higher education environment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
  • Demonstrate a friendly, helpful attitude and commitment to making a difference for students.
  • Ability to successfully function within a fast paced, stressful environment, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Understand FERPA and the highly confidential nature and scope of this position.
  • Knowledge of BANNER financial aid module and the skill to navigate within the BANNER system.
  • Commitment to a high level of quality customer service.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Assist students with completing and submitting financial aid applications, supporting documentation, web-based financial aid applications, and web-based student loan applications.
  • Insure that all student financial aid documentation is updated in the Banner system and scanned.
  • Assist the Director of Financial Aid with clerical and administrative support and other daily tasks; Assist with monthly reports and data collection for statistics; Record weekly/monthly meeting minutes as needed; Complete various request forms for office supplies, work orders and equipment as directed; Assist with Standard Of Academic Progress appeal process; Maintain orderly office area, lobby area and backroom inventory area; Keep inventory counts of marketing materials, promotional items, and office supplies
  • Assist with financial aid outreach events.
  • Open and process incoming daily mail.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Job Dimensions: Work performed primarily in an office/classroom setting. Occasional travel and extended hours required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. Required abilities include walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Visual demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 10 pounds.
