Affiliated (Part-Time) Faculty History of African and African Diaspora Arts

The Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College seeks applications for an adjunct position for the Spring 2022 semester to teach the following 200-level survey course. (Please note: the course may be focused to capitalize upon the candidate's areas of specialization but this material must fall within the parameters outlined in the description below.). Classes begin on January 10, 2022 for the Spring 2022 semester (day and time of course currently TBD).

VM216 History of African and African Diaspora Arts

Examines a diverse selection of art and architecture from regional kingdoms, cultures, and religions of Africa and the African Diaspora. Artworks are contextualized within critical, discursive frameworks of ritual, performance, trade, modernism, craft, and narrative. Considers the politics of colonial history and their impact on art collecting practices and museum display. Fulfills the Aesthetics Perspective and Global Diversity requirements. (Semester varies)

Applicants should have an academic background in art history on the graduate level, and experience teaching. Advanced Ph.D. candidates are encouraged to apply. Emerson College is an EOE and committed to the standards of Inclusive Excellence.
