Assistant Professor in Public Health

The newly created Department of Public Health at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Public Health. The University is situated in a vibrant and growing community, serving a diverse, multicultural population that is reflected in our student body. While continuing its tradition of excellence in teaching and community service, UTSA is rapidly moving toward classification as a doctoral/research intensive institution. Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in community and public health, conducting nationally visible research in identified specialty area(s) in collaboration with current faculty, pursuing external funding, and performing university and community related service.

Required qualifications are 1) Doctorate in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, Biostatistics, Statistics, or related field (ABD with anticipated graduation of August 2022 will be considered for Assistant Professor rank. Preference will be given to candidates who have already finished their degrees); 2) demonstration of ability to teach in the areas related to public health and biostatistics; 3) demonstration of a solid research agenda and publication capability; 4) potential for external research funding; demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity to include the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations and support the University’s commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success.

Preferred qualifications include 1) degree in Biostatistics; 2) expertise in experimental design, clinical trials, applied statistics, longitudinal data analysis; 3) experience with education and research of culturally diverse and underserved populations; 4) experience teaching courses in public health, biostatistics or statistics; 5) record of publications and external funding; and 6) ability to collaborate with current faculty.

Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding. The position will begin in the Fall 2022, pending budget approval.
