The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track non-classroom faculty position serving as the Director of Student Life.

Job Description:

  • Lead and develop of a comprehensive student life program that enhances the intellectual development of students; fosters student leadership development and engagement in campus life; promotes a strong sense of community and an appreciation for diversity; and reflects the broad range of students' interests and needs        
  • Lead and develop of a comprehensive student life program that enhances the intellectual development of students; fosters student leadership development and engagement in campus life; promotes a strong sense of community and an appreciation for diversity; and reflects the broad range of students' interests and needs.
  • Supervise all Student Life functions and be responsible for the services, programs, policies, staff and budget of the department of Student Life (including faculty/staff members as well as student workers).  Student Life programs/functions include: student government/clubs and organizations, coordination of new student orientation, assistance with Commencement planning and implementation, Student Leadership programs, Parent/Family weekend, Commencement, and other student development programmatic initiatives.
  • Implement and evaluate programming designed to foster student learning and development and promote student engagement and satisfaction while ensuring that programs reflect institutional goals and priorities.
  • Oversee the department in designing and implementing educational, social, cultural, physical, and mental health co-curricular programs and assist student organizations and clubs in planning, implementing, and assessing programming and events for those purposes.
  • Develop and implement long and short-term plans and activities; oversee the development and coordination of calendars and event schedules.
  • Serve as a resource to individual students and student organizations by providing guidance, support, problem solving and mediation for issues pertaining to student activities.
  • Provide and demonstrate leadership, guidance and mentorship for the FIT Student Government (SGA) student clubs and their academic advisors, including serving as FITSA Advisor. Provide leadership development training for students and student clubs; oversee student club activities, events, and budgets; recommend policies related to the development and management of student clubs; allocate space to student clubs and organizations; and provide training and support for student organization advisors. Approve monitor and ensure fiscal accountability for student activities and student organizations' budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 


Requirements:

  • Master's degree in student personnel administration/counseling or closely related field required.
  • Five to seven years of current and appropriate related experience in leadership development, program planning, co-curricular activities, advising student government, and a commitment to developing partnerships with academic areas to create educational experiences outside of the classroom required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and abilities in the following areas: supervision of staff, student development, leadership training, policy formation, risk management, program development and assessment techniques for measuring effectiveness of co-curricular programs involving a diverse student population. Demonstrated strength in budgetary/fiscal management. Ability to utilize computer web site and internet resources in student life area. A demonstrated commitment of fostering diversity and multi-cultural understanding on an urban college campus. Strong interpersonal skills as well as a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to interact effectively with students, faculty members and administrators.

Work Schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

FIT is undertaking a national search for the Director of Student Life and welcomes applications and nominations for this Non-Classroom Faculty position. Final salary and appointment rank will be based on the education level and cumulative experience of the candidate.
