Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice President, the Director of Annual Giving Programs leads, manages and coordinates all annual giving functions, including direct mail, leadership giving, digital and online, telemarketing, crowd funding and volunteer driven solicitations, towards meeting the unrestricted goals of the College. The director manages a full time staff and coordinates programming with members of the Advancement team, primarily athletic development, major gifts, advancement services, stewardship, and campus partners when necessary, to execute comprehensive alumni, parent, and friend solicitation outreach.

This position requires a strategic leader with a vision for increasing the number of donors to the College annually, improving retention percentages, and coordinating upgrade strategies to impact a growing pipeline of leadership donors. This position will serve as a partner with the office of alumni and community engagement to build a "culture of engagement" leading to philanthropy. The director will cultivate and enhance a best-practice annual giving office that is data-driven, goal-oriented, and results focused, in consultation with other higher education institutions for benchmarking purposes.
1. Plan strategic direction and execution for direct mail communication; including sophisticated segmentation, strategy for retention, acquisition and upgrades, while using approved College priorities and messaging for alumni, parents and friends outreach. Coordinate and develop data analytics/reports in partnership with Advancement Services.
2. Manage Assistant Directors, Phon-a-thon Manager, and Manager of Annual Giving, to ensure a strategic and integrated annual giving strategy is executed across all multi-channel programming, including oversight of planning and calendaring to effectively improve retention, sustaining gifts, and increase in multiple gifts from individuals annually. Heavy focus on developing a leadership annual giving model, online communications, campus and student philanthropy programming, telemarketing, and stewardship efforts will add to meeting the annual goals for donors, dollars, and participation.

3. Lead, direct, and execute the vision for meeting unrestricted goals of the College annually for donors and dollars, including reporting monthly on progress to date, forecasting updates and annual review of annual giving programming.

4. Collaborate with Advancement colleagues, campus partners, vendors, volunteers and peers at other institutions to create timely, accurate, efficient and innovative annual giving programming, based on data modeling, testing, and best practice strategies.

5. Develop and oversee new annual giving initiatives, such as giving days, social media coordination, leadership giving strategies, young alumni and student acquisition activities, campus partner and restricted giving approved opportunities, and expand reunion giving solicitations in partnership with Alumni Engagement.

6. Manage a small portfolio of volunteers and annual leadership prospects/donors. This includes a new partnership with the Alumni Board of Directors representing the philanthropic side of the Board's expectation.

Experience and Qualifications

Education: REQUIRED: BA PREFERRED: MA

Experience: 6-8 years experience in annual giving related roles, preferably 4 years+ experience in direct response programming.
Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated experience in direct-response programming. Expertise in English grammar, punctuation, and syntax; use of best practices in direct-response writing, understanding of branding and positioning strategies, ability to learn subject- specific terminology for use in developing print, verbal and online communication; knowledge multi channel communication. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Demonstrated knowledge of marketing materials and reports. Comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines. Strong communication and writing skills for all mediums. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Ability to produce high quality work n deadline. Knowledge of all aspects of sophisticated fundraising programs, strong organizational and analytical skills, and demonstrated business and project management skills.
