Description

The Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall of academic year 2022-23. We seek a social scientist who studies US-based communities that descend from Central America or the Caribbean. The ideal candidate will have an emphasis in Afro-Latinidad, indigeneity, migration, or diaspora and hold a PhD in a relevant field of study. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, and service.

Latino Studies, which is comprised of the Department of Mexican American & Latina/o Studies (MALS), the Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS), and the Latino Research Institute (LRI) is the leader in Latino thought and advocacy at The University of Texas at Austin. The department offers a full spectrum of interdisciplinary courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The center connects the community with campus through innovative programming and outreach, and the Latino Research Institute generates data and research that is vital to sustaining healthy, productive, and just environments for Latinos by turning knowledge into action.

In addition to the vibrant intellectual community within Latino Studies, UT faculty have access to incredible academic resources, such as the LLILAS Benson Collections, Harry Ransom Center, LBJ Presidential Library and archives, and more.

Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand by August 18, 2022. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a successful publishing and research program and a strong teaching record. In addition to actively researching and publishing, the candidate will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses, direct honors theses and dissertations, and provide service to the department, with eventual service to the college and university. Candidates may come from any social science background, but those holding a Ph.D. in Chicana/o or Latina/o Studies, Indigenous Studies, Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, Public Health, Sociology, Political Science, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Communication, Psychology, Geography, and Anthropology are especially encouraged to apply.
