Job Summary

The Southwest Florida Leadership Institute (SFLI) is housed in the Lutgert College of Business. The Director will develop the programs of the Institute and direct its daily operations, engage and collaborate with external corporate partners to plan and deliver SFLI training and micro-credentialing opportunities for their executives and workforce, and develop internal relationships and training opportunities for FGCU personnel. Additionally, the Director will teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as applicable; be involved in course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship appropriate to rank; and participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • The reduced teaching load for this position will include four courses per academic year (including Fall, Spring and Summer); courses are offered in 16-week, 8-week, and 7-week formats, depending on Departmental needs.
  • Providing vision for and establishment of the new Southwest Florida Leadership Institute in the Southwest Florida region, defining its role on campus and in the broader community, and developing Institute programs
  • Working collaboratively with faculty, community partners, and other SFLI-affiliates on Institute programs and initiatives
  • Managing and coordinating Institute project work with staff, faculty, and student research assistants
  • Providing strategic leadership related to outreach and public service efforts
  • Generating external funding (from grants, donations, or fees for services provided) to support the activities of the Institute
  • Providing local, regional and national press media interviews
  • 2-3 meetings with the external advisory board, annually
 Other Duties:

  • Preparation of tables, graphs, reports and presentations.
  • Survey design and implementation.
  • Presentations relating to Institute initiatives to community groups.
  • Client relations

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Management, Leadership, or related field from an AACSB-accredited program or equivalent accreditation
  • Current rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship in leadership and management consistent with rank 
 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with a leadership institute or similar leadership training/consulting experience
  • Practical industry experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in scholarship that includes publications in A-level journals
  • Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate courses (both face-to-face and online)
  • Experience with community outreach and planning of events that engage the community with the institution
  • Track record of securing external funding through gifts and/or competitive grant programs
 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching
  • Ability to manage support staff, budgets, and grant funding
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion
  • Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University on scholarship and the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued high-quality scholarship and service to the school and university.
