Clinical Exercise Physiology

 

Position: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the tenure-stream

 

Appointment:  Eight-month, full-time (in the tenure-stream) appointment; starting Fall 2022

 

Description: The Department of Health and Human Development at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education seeks a colleague in the area of clinical exercise physiology who will complement and extend our research community, help lead efforts towards revitalizing and growing our Master’s program, provide cutting-edge instruction to students, and contribute to the development of excellence in professional training for clinical application. Our department blends health promotion, wellness, and exercise physiology with applied developmental science and evidence-based practices to address 21st-century problems in diverse regional, national, and global real-world contexts. Many of our faculty members focus on training exercise scientists in clinical exercise physiology and health promotion and providing wellness programming for the University and the surrounding community. We offer multiple degrees including: Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Masters of Science (M.S.), Education Doctorate (Ed.D.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

 

This hire would be charged with oversight of our Clinical Exercise Physiology MS program and assist with clinical practicum coordination. Specifically, this candidate would be expected to work with an existing team of experts in the field to help develop courses with the goal of seeking accreditation and strengthen our department’s clinical focus in exercise physiology. The candidate is expected to collaborate with colleagues to assess and pose solutions to growing our practicum experiences as well establish supportive and innovative programming through community-based partnerships in this important area. This position, contributing to teaching, research, and engagement needs, speaks to a School-wide mission/vision “to ignite learning, pursue and produce knowledge, and advance educational excellence.” The successful candidate will have a commitment to equity and justice, and be eager to pursue partnerships with clinical settings, communities, and other organizations which translate and advance research-practice partnerships and community-engagement.

 

 

Qualifications:    

Required:

  1. D. in exercise physiology with a clinical focus or related field
  2. Record of scholarly work in clinical exercise physiology including, but not limited to, special populations such as pediatric, senior, or cardiometabolic or chronic disease patients.
  3. Demonstrated excellence in (or promise of) university-level teaching in clinical exercise physiology and/or exercise science, as well as advisement and mentoring of students;
  4. Record of peer-reviewed publication and success with (or promise of) external funding for scholarship and/or practice/engagement work.

 

 

Salary and Rank

Rank will be commensurate with experience and subject to the University of Pittsburgh promotion and tenure process.  Salary will be commensurate with rank.
