The University of South Carolina Aiken, a senior institution in the University of South Carolina system, seeks candidates for Assistant Professor of Spanish (Tenure-track), beginning August 16, 2022. This is a tenure-track 9-month full-time teaching, research, and service position. Required: minimum earned Ph.D. in Spanish (specialization open) in hand by August 16, 2022.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience.   

Candidates will be expected to teach a 3-course load per semester consisting of beginning to intermediate Spanish language courses, Spanish Conversation & Composition courses, specialized courses in Iberian Literatures & Cultures, as well as have knowledge of and/or experience with online course delivery and course development. Interest in becoming involved with our Maymester Study Abroad Program in Valladolid, Spain, as well as the ability to teach “Spanish for the Professions” courses (Spanish for Medical Personnel, Spanish for Business & Finance, Spanish for Teachers, Spanish for Healthcare Workers, etc.), and Spanish-English Translation & Interpretation are pluses.

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures offers two Spanish majors and two Spanish minors: “Spanish-English Translation and Interpretation” and “Spanish Language, Literatures, and Cultures”. In 2022, the department of will consist of 6 full-time faculty members who teach courses in Spanish, French, and German. The candidate must demonstrate strong evidence of excellence in teaching, scholarly potential, and native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English.
