Position Summary:

Directs the technical activities, operations, planning, and policy development of a lab, including coordinating the activities of multiple, complex projects and staff to ensure quality control and compliance with regulations. The SHOW Laboratory Manager will oversee the SHOW biorepository including the collection, maintenance and storage of human biospecimens collected as part of the ongoing longitudinal follow-up of the SHOW cohort. The Laboratory Manager will also support dissemination of biospecimens to investigators across the UW and to qualified outside researchers. The Manager will be responsible for maintaining the biosafety protocols necessary to secure safety and management of human biospecimens. The Laboratory Manager will also work with investigators to understand their research needs, provide feedback for end-users on availability of samples and if any pre-processing (e.g. DNA prep, RNA prep, aliquoting, extraction or other laboratory services) are needed prior to distributing samples to investigators. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for some DNA extraction, aliquoting and storage, and have awareness of other analytics available on campus for investigators- such as the biotechnology center and others. The LM will also be responsible for supporting new field protocols for biospecimen collection when needed.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's Degree in biology, molecular biology or related field

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required:
1 year of previous experience in a laboratory

Preferred Qualifications:
- experience in basic laboratory operations and biological safety
- experience in molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA extraction and qRT-PCR
- basic knowledge of biological sample (blood, urine) collection, processing and storing
- experience with blood collection and processing is preferred
- basic data analytic and software skills
- strong organizational skills and detail orientation
