Assistant Professor of Recreation and Sport Management



Position Announcement

The Department of Health & Human Performance at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, invi tes applica tions for a full-time tenure-track f aculty position in Recreation and Sport Management to start Fall Semester or August 2022 . This position directly supports the Bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Sport Management and associated certificates, emphases, and minors through course instruction and collaborative curriculum management. Candidates with specializations and expertise in any aspect of the recreation and sport industry will be considered. Candidates with the ability to enhance and expand curriculum offerings within revenue generation and sport sales, sport marketing, sport analytics, and/or coaching education are preferred. Other responsibilities for the position include support for student learning and success, active participation in university and professional service, and engagement in scholarly and creative activities. Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year, usually a 4-4 course schedule, primarily in-person.



  • Develop and deliver courses in the recreation and sport management curriculum, utilizing both in-person and online modes of delivery.

  • Hold regular office hours, attend regular department meetings, vote on department issues, and advise on student assessment as needed.

  • Serve on university, college, and department committee and engage in community and professional discipline service activities.

  • Engage in scholarly and creative activities resulting in the sharing of knowledge through teaching, presentations, publications, and other appropriate outlets.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Chair, Department Chair, and/or Dean .



Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a closely related field, with at least one graduate degree in Sport Management, required .

  • Evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels (finalists will be required to demonstrate competence via a teaching demonstration).

  • Strong interpersonal communicat ion skills with students, staff and colleagues, both orally and in writing.



  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across disciplines and with external sport and leisure organizations.

  • Evidence of developed, or ability to develop, sustained contributions of scholarly and creative activities of discovery and/or teaching resulting in the sharing of knowledge through presentations, publications, and other appropriate outlets.

  • Online teaching experience and course development preferred.

  • At least five (5) years of practical industry-specific experience preferred.

  • Experience developing and working with student clubs preferred.



Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2022, with pay & benefits starting July 1, 2022. Annual salary of $60,000 - $64,000, depending upon qualifications & experience; additional compensation available for summer/overload teaching. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Health and Human Performance Department offers a B.S. in Exercise Science, Population Health, and Recreation and Sport Management as well as a M.A.T. in Athletic Training. The department is housed in the College of Health Sciences. The department enrolls over 700 undergraduate students in the associated degree programs and serves roughly forty percent of the campus study body, each semester, through the activity program (FAST). The department values experiential learning and student engagement supporting the University’s approach of “active learning, active life.” The Recreation and Sport Management degree was created in 2017 and has strong relationships with the institution’s athletics department, campus recreation, and community sport and leisure organizations. The program focuses on fostering healthy lifestyles, effective management of organizations, and the social and economic development of communities.
