Job Summary

University of Louisiana Monroe is located on the beautiful banks of Bayou Desiard in the northeast corner of the state. The city of Monroe is the economic and healthcare hub of the region, is known as the birthplace of Delta Airlines and home to the corporate headquarters of Lumen (formerly CenturyLink), and is conveniently located 177 miles from Little Rock, Arkansas, 283 miles from New Orleans, Louisiana, 284 miles from Dallas, Texas and 325 miles from Memphis, Tennessee.

The College of Business and Social Sciences serves approximately 2300 students and offers 17 undergraduate and 5 graduate degree programs. The CBSS has a proud tradition of teaching excellence and seeks to offer a student-centered learning environment that produces high-quality graduates and engages in practical research and service that benefits students, business and the community.

The School of Behavioral and Social Sciences is home to 883 undergraduate students. We offer 4 programs of study including Criminal Justice, Political Science, Psychology, and Social Work. We also offer 5 graduate programs of study including Master of Public Administration, Master of Science in Psychology, Master of Arts in Criminal Justice, and Master of Gerontology and a Graduate Certificate in Senior Health Care Management.

The School Director provides leadership for the effective and efficient operations of the School and serves as part of the leadership team for the College of Business and Social Sciences.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Program-related Responsibilities

  • Oversee review of academic programs for the School
  • Oversee academic assessment plans and participation for the School’s programs
  • Coordinate the preparation of reports and supporting documentation related to academics for accreditation maintenance, including SACS and any program specific accreditations
  • Coordinate changes to undergraduate academic programs
  • Prepare curriculum changes paperwork for academic programs

Class-related Responsibilities

  • Develop long and short-term course schedules in cooperation with faculty, program chairs and Associate Dean
  • Make classroom assignments and ensure room capacity requirements in coordination with other Directors and Associate Dean
  • Monitor schedule for waitlists, closed classes, staffing, needed cancellations, etc.
  • Oversee on-line course development and delivery for the School’s programs
  • Oversee textbook order process and approve orders

Student-related Responsibilities

  • Handle walk-in interested or potential student questions
  • Represent the Department Head role in review of student grade appeals
  • Handle student issues and complaints related to School faculty and programs
  • Review, process and/or authorize schedule changes for beginning freshman
  • Review, process and/or authorize student overrides, course substitutions, transfer credit approvals, etc. for the School’s students and programs
  • Review and process student financial aid appeals paperwork
  • Coordinate student progress monitoring and degree audits
  • Coordinate student advising in conjunction with faculty
  • Coordinate retention programs
  • Oversee graduating senior process, including application, degree check-out, certification, final completion of all requirements, etc.

Faculty/Staff-related Responsibilities

  • Conduct annual evaluations of faculty and administrative staff
  • Support faculty through the monitoring of professional development plans
  • Supervise administrative assistant and student workers assigned to School
  • Coordinate tenure/promotion process for School
  • Approve time sheets
  • Recruit faculty when necessary

Professional Development and Teaching Responsibilities

  • Engage in scholarly activity
  • Pursue professional development
  • Teach 12 hours per year


Minimum Qualifications

Earned PhD in discipline from within the College of Business and Social Sciences; significant experience in teaching and research; strong communication skills and ability to make decisions independently and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.
