Position Summary

The Corrections Education Coordinator ( CEC ) is a resource for students, faculty, and volunteers involved with the program, which provides higher education opportunities to people who are incarcerated. The CEC will work with leadership to facilitate the initiative’s administration and provide administrative support for the program.

Essential Job Functions of Position

The Corrections Education Coordinator ( CEC ) will coordinate the Corrections Project programming and messaging across the university.

Track educational program outcomes for participants in the program and work with faculty and partners to develop outcome measurements.

Facilitate meetings between appropriate faculty, university stakeholders, and KDOC partners for coordination and future development, curriculum and degree planning, and the path to on-campus study when a student leaves prison.

Assist recently discharged prisoners who want to continue their education and pursue on-campus study.

Connect students to university resources, academic advising, and appropriate community partners to assist with the transfer.

Collect and store program and participant data in selected database programs to provide timely and accurate reports regarding the program, participants’ activity, student enrollment, time to release, reentry planning, and degree progress for reporting and facilitating grant compliance.

Serve as a resource and liaison between the student and the program and between institutional and campus authorities. Assists students with completing the admission applications, applying for financial aid or scholarships, and other inquiries.

Manage and become proficient in education delivery equipment (e.g., tablets) and train new faculty and students in its use.

Ensure students have access to necessary resources such as academic counseling, tutors, and materials to help students successfully progress through the program to a degree.

Coordinate all phases of admissions, course selection, registration, scheduling, student evaluation and affairs, and graduation with the college institution.
Oversee the daily operations of the program within the prison.

Assist faculty and volunteers with correctional departmental policies, procedures, and required training. Facilitate volunteer clearances for faculty, staff, and other guests involved in the program.

Participate in special projects, meetings, committees, training/workshops, and events as assigned or as appropriate.

Organize the recruitment and admissions process for incarcerated applicants.

Create and maintain an accurate academic calendar that reflects all coursework, workshops, and events held at the correctional facilities for each academic year.

Work with staff to ensure course materials and equipment are approved and distributed to students before each semester.

Provide overall administrative and academic support for the program and associated staff.

Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree.
The ability to receive appropriate clearance to work at the facility.
At least one year of program coordination experience or one year of experience delivering educational services to adults.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in social services, criminal justice, communications, education, counseling, or a related field.
Experience working with the criminal justice system and institutions of higher learning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in MS Office required.
Proven effective organizational skills.
Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting people who are incarcerated.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
