Job Description Summary

The College of Education at Auburn University invites applications for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. With 32 full-time faculty, the Department prepares teacher candidates and practicing teachers in discipline-specific pedagogy to make reasoned decisions grounded in professional ethics, collaboration, diversity, intellectual vitality, and reflective thinking. Moreover, faculty envision teachers who possess skills and abilities to incorporate a variety of technologies for managing, evaluating, and improving student learning.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctoral degree in one of the department’s program areas or in a closely related field; a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to meet tenure eligibility requirements of Auburn University and hold rank of full professor at the time of appointment; leadership in U.S. public school preservice and in-service teacher education; administrative, managerial, and financial knowledge and skills to effectively lead an academic department; documented success as a collaborative leader, with effective communication and interpersonal skills; substantive commitment and demonstrated contributions toward diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Additionally, the candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of the appointment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required. A background check is required for employment in this position.

Desired Qualifications

Excellent record of teaching and mentoring; at least three years teaching experience; experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with schools; history of obtaining and supporting external funding; experience cultivating departmental research activity; excellence in faculty development and mentoring; expertise initiating and maintaining accreditation; ability to effectively lead the department in working with multiple constituencies; ability to promote the department’s strategic priorities.
