Geographic Area: Southeast Alabama- Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike Counties

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System ( ACES ), Family and Consumer Sciences program, is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Regional Extension Agent ( REA ) – Financial Resource Management and Workforce Development position. The REA is a regional-based professional of ACES who represents the research-based programs and resources available through Auburn University and Alabama A&M University. REAs work collaboratively with County Extension Coordinators, other regional agents, state specialists, and clientele to assess needs and develop and deliver programs within the mission of ACES . The REA will be expected to provide high impact research- and evidence-based educational programming and resources to families across the life span, in support of efforts to strengthen the quality of family life. The designated areas of expertise are in the disciplines of workforce development (employability, economic and job stability, family- and self-sufficiency), and family economic stability (individual and family resource management, financial literacy, consumer decision making, work and family). Each county within the geographic service area has an Extension office; REA office location will depend on availability of space in county offices within the service area.

Duties and responsibilities include:
•Serve as a contributing member on the Extension Financial Resource Management and Workforce Development TEAM . Assist in developing and implementing priority programs in response to identified county and state needs and in developing an annual TEAM program plan-of-work.
•Function as an effective educator and credible resource using innovative and creative approaches, including social media and both in-person as well as virtual education. Develop and write quality educational materials to support programming.
•Offer comprehensive and complex programming to support long-term change and participate in interdisciplinary programming.
•Establish, organize, facilitate, and maintain networks and coalitions at the local and regional levels to multiply efforts and to bring added value to ACES clients.
•Identify innovative ways to serve under-served and under-represented audiences.
•Cooperate and communicate with County Extension Coordinators, County Commissions, regional agents, state specialists, and the Assistant Director for Programs regarding county and regional projects. Maintain a positive working relationship with staff and clients.
•In cooperation with County Extension Coordinators, follow appropriate fiscal management for programmatic needs.
•Appropriately administer the materials and financial resources of ACES .
•Evaluate priority programs and complete system reports when due. Inform and educate the public and key stakeholders about program outcomes.
•Secure resources (volunteers, contracts, grants, fees, and donations) to support identified needs at county and regional level.
•Work with minimal supervision in an unstructured setting. Self motivated to achieve goals and deadlines.
•Assume other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in the area of consumer education, financial management, workforce development and education, economics, school counseling, human development and family studies, adult education, or some other closely related field and at least three years of related work experience.

The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a master’s degree within five years after successfully completing a probationary period.

The successful candidate must demonstrate educational leadership in the application of knowledge through planning for, implementing, and teaching educational programs. They must have excellent and effective interpersonal and written communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and the ability to deliver educational programming and resources to a diverse clientele. This position requires regular travel to carry out Extension responsibilities, and the successful incumbent must have access to reliable transportation.

Successful applicants must possess strong leadership and organizational skills, and the ability to respectfully self-motivate their daily priorities.

Desired Qualifications

A Master’s degree and three years of relevant work experience. Previous extension experience. Demonstrated ability to recruit and manage volunteers. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs. Experience in small business development, entrepreneurship, homeownership education, or community development.
