Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to serve as an enthusiastic and outgoing spokesperson for KyCC AmeriCorps State programs, building and maintaining strong relationships with host sites, AmeriCorps members, and the surrounding communities throughout the state of Kentucky.
The AmeriCorps Program Manager ( APM ) for Member Support and Strategic Partnerships will work on two AmeriCorps programs; 80% on Kentucky College Coaches ( KCC ), a college access program, and 20% on Kentucky Counselor Academy ( KCA ), a college access/student success program. (This will be the percentages the first year while KCA is in the start-up phase. In subsequent years, the percentage might change.)
For Member Support, the APM will conduct regular site visits of all KyCC Kentucky College Coaches that include compliance checks, technical assistance, and building relationships with the school and district personnel. During the 21-22 program year, KCA members will begin in January, so the KCA site visits will be conducted Jan-July. The APM will develop relationships with the 8 KCA host sites in the fall and will support the Recruiter in finding excellent candidates for the positions.
For Strategic Partnerships, the APM will build relationships throughout the state to build pipelines for AmeriCorps member candidates, host schools for KCC, and participants for KCA . During travels for member site visits, the APM will also visit institutions of higher education ( IHE ) in the region as well as community agencies such as libraries, churches, local nonprofits, and government agencies to educate the community about KCC and KCA and the opportunity for people to participate in national service. The APM will look for opportunities to talk with community groups such as Rotary Clubs, Area Development Districts, Cooperative Extension Offices, and Local Health Districts.
The APM will work closely with the KCC AmeriCorps team including the APM for Program Development and Assessment, the Operations Manager, and the Recruiter. Together they will work to develop the use of national service resources to achieve the KyCC goals of increased college access, student success, and community impact. Primary Responsibilities
1. Conduct weekly AmeriCorps member support and strategic partnership trips. This will include: 1) site visits to each of the KyCC KCC and KCA members ( KCA beginning in January 2022), including conversations with the host site supervisor and school and district personnel; 2) active recruitment for open AmeriCorps positions 3) visits/public speaking with community groups to develop AmeriCorps candidate pipeline, and 4) colleges/universities in the area to build an AmeriCorps candidate pipeline and potential host offices/departments. Complete AmeriCorps member site visit reports.
2. Convene meetings (in-person and/or through zoom) to connect KyCC member colleges and universities (staff, faculty, students, administrators) and KyCC KCA and KCC AmeriCorps members and alumni in the same region to encourage collaboration and partnerships. Nurture the ongoing development of the relationships.
3. Meet regularly with the KyCC AmeriCorps team and Executive Director and actively participate in the ongoing development of the programs, contributing ideas about how to connect national service and higher education, how to improve recruitment and customer service, and how to involve KyCC AmeriCorps State & National alumni.
4. Make innovative connections with potential new partners and look for ways of connecting AmeriCorps members, new and existing partners, KyCC member institutions, and community members. Serve as the Serve Kentucky liaison for KCC and attend meetings/trainings as needed.
5. Make regular entries in Salesforce to capture contact information for the participants in meetings, training, and events, and to track program progress. Track potential AmeriCorps member candidates and potential new K-12 host schools and potential host colleges and universities.
6. Meet regularly with supervisor (KyCC Executive Director). In collaboration with the ED, agree on metrics for assessing the scope and effectiveness of the APM work. Track those metrics throughout the year.
7. Participate in KyCC staff meetings and events and spend time on increasing self-awareness and skills connected to diversity, equity, and inclusion so that knowledge can be integrated into all the APM’s work. Complete other duties as needed. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Six years related work experience (or advanced degree); 4 years of management experience.
  • Experience with AmeriCorps preferred.
  • Experience in successfully building relationships, partnerships, and collaborations.
  • Ability to connect people with other individuals, organizations, and opportunities.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the connection between AmeriCorps national service, the engagement goals of higher education
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, arrange own schedule.
  • Interest in using national service as a resource to support student success in higher education.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make cold calls in person and through the use of technology.
