Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (81924)

The Department of Comparative, Diagnostic, and Population Medicine at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure accruing faculty position in Veterinary Clinical Pathology at the Clinical Assistant/Associate level. The major efforts of the position are clinical service and instruction, which include diagnostic activities in the Clinical Pathology section of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories. The faculty hire will also be expected to be involved in scholarly activity; opportunities exist to explore or develop self-directed special interests in pathology and/or participate in collaborations with other faculty at the CVM and/or Health Science Center. Service to the college is also expected, and can be met by professional, departmental and university appointments.

The faculty hire must have experience in diagnostic cytopathology, hematology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, and have the ability to independently sign out cases, in support of the clinical pathology service. The selected applicant will provide service support for on-campus clinical programs at the veterinary teaching hospital, private practitioners, and research customers. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in training and mentoring three clinical pathology residents, supporting didactic clinical instruction, and advising veterinary students and house officers. Prior instructional experience is desirable, though not required.

The UF clinical pathology service is supported by a high quality, high volume, and diverse caseload with submissions from within the teaching hospital and outside practices, in particular very busy oncology and zoological/wildlife medicine services. The clinical pathology laboratory is well-equipped and includes dedicated sections for cytopathology (MilliporeSigma™ MIDAS™ III Automated Slide Stainer with methanolic Wright-Giemsa), hematology (Siemens ADVIA® 2120i System and IDEXX ProCyte Dx®), clinical chemistry (Beckman Coulter AU480), coagulation (STAGO STA Compact Max®), endocrinology (Siemens Immulite® 1000), urinalysis, and other specialty analyses. The Clinical Pathology Section maintains strong and active interactions with the other hospital services. The university is located in Gainesville, a north-central Florida city with a climate that permits year-round outdoor activities in addition to numerous cultural, shopping, and culinary opportunities and sporting events. The Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean beaches, as well as the cities of Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville, are all within 90 minutes’ drive.

The University of Florida Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories are comprised of dedicated individuals who strive for excellence in diagnostics to improve animal and human health. The current UFVDL pathology team includes 10 anatomic and 2 clinical pathologists and is pursuing American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) accreditation.

Requirements include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree and satisfactory completion of a veterinary clinical pathology training program, supervised by ACVP-certified clinical pathologists, at an AVMA-accredited institution.
