Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $5,742 per month

Full Classification Salary Range: $5,742 - $7,414 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.


The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under general supervision, incumbents in this classification perform the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work as outlined in the series overview. Incumbents in this classification also may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. In addition to general plumbing maintenance work, this position may require work on the campus potable drinking water system.

Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade, including the California State Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes
  • Must be able to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems; water, high pressure natural gas, pneumatic air lines, and perform applicable welding work
  • Provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants
  • Possess or in the process of obtaining a Backflow Prevention Device Tester Certification

Education and Experience

  • Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber’s apprenticeship program.
