Part-Time Lecturer

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
As part of a new program at Northeastern in the Seattle area, we are looking for a part-time instructor for a course entitled Engineering Design. This is an entry-level course, often for first-year students, with no prerequisites. It is part of the courses delivered by the First-year Engineering Program which strives to transform engineering education by delivering first courses that inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding engineering students and ready for future classes and the co-op program. This is a part-time position in a new location, the team is in Boston and will work with you remotely.

Responsibilities:
The main responsibility of this position is teaching students in this engineering design course, which is a first year level with no prerequisites. Class sizes are capped to allow a more personal interaction with students. We teach our students using a hand on approach, where the emphasis is on design and problem-solving using engineering tools and software and applied in course themes that are project-based. Because of the diversity in disciplines within the course and instructors, development of new themes and projects to match each instructor's interests is encouraged. The faculty work as a team, developing course curriculum and content, along with working together during the semester on delivery and student interactions. The main focus of this course is the Engineering Design process, integrating graphics software (AutoCAD and Solidworks), culminating in students researching a project, designing a solution, prototyping, building and testing that solution. If feasible, students will use maker space tools to assist in their projects. Enthusiasm for design and build, along with experience in graphical software are strong qualifications for this position.

Qualifications:
Minimum requirement is master's degree in engineering; a doctorate degree in engineering is preferred, or in closely related fields of science and engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, project-based learning and mentoring. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment which is fundamental to a Northeastern University education.

Salary Grade:
FAC
