The College of Liberal Arts at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi invites applications for a Costume Shop Supervisor position. The Department of Theatre and Dance includes a 268-seat proscenium theatre and a 168-seat black box theatre, conducting a five show Mainstage season, with additional student productions throughout the year. This is a one-year renewable staff position. This position is responsible for supervising the costume shop for the Department of Theatre and Dance's five mainstage productions.

The Department of Theatre & Dance is a 12-member faculty, 150+-major program offering a Bachelor of Arts degree with emphasis' in Acting/Directing and Design/Tech, both offering options for Teacher Certification, and a Minor in Dance.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide costume shop supervision for all events in the Theatre/Dance season.
  • Plan, organize, and lead draper/pattern drafter, construction, maintenance, and supply shopping.
  • Prepare the build schedule for all costume items in conjunction with the Costume Designer and participate in the construction of costume crafts.
  • Supervise, instruct, and oversee the safety of all student workers and volunteers in the costume shop/storage/dressing room areas.
  • Supervise all costume/crafts/makeup/hair health and safety, including first-aid supplies, and University-sanctioned Training.
  • Assist with season scheduling and budgeting.
  • Attend all dress rehearsals and additional meetings as needed.
  • Work closely with the Costume/Makeup Designers and other design faculty as a collaborative team to ensure the highest quality production values and a safe and inclusive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree.
  • Three (3) years professional experience as Shop Manager/Costume Builder.
  • Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience requirement:
    • Bachelor's and One (1) year of experience.
    • Master's Degree
  • Knowledge in Draping, Pattern Drafting, Stitching, and Wardrobe.
  • Knowledge of costume equipment and tools, including domestic sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, sergers/overlock machines, and shop practices
  • Excellent communication, budgetary, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and perform physical tasks.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Fine Arts in Costume Technology/Costume Design.
  • Knowledge of running a costume shop in a professional and/or academic setting.
  • Experience in Costume Crafts, Hair & Makeup, and Wardrobe
  • Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and computer aided pattern drafting.
  • Knowledge/experience supervising inexperienced technicians.


Pay Range:
  • $15.00 Hourly
