Job Description:

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Dean of Students, the Assistant Director is a full-time, 12-month position within the Office of Community Standards & Accountability. The incumbent will serve as the principal Community Standards Officer for students who are allegedly in violation of the Student Code of Conduct. Responsibilities include serving as the primary Community Standards Hearing Officer, facilitating sanctioned educational classes, and implementing preventative programing around the Student Code of Conduct.

Essential Functions:

This role requires a thorough understanding of the College's student conduct process, as well as strong communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills. The Assistant Director will promote student learning and development through the community standards process, services, and programs.

1. Community Standards Hearing Officer:

  • Serve as the primary hearing officer for cases involving violations of the Student Code of Conduct;
  • Responsible for investigations and documentation of alleged incidents including Bias, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct;
  • Provide students with fair and prompt notification, adjudication, and outcome letters for their respective cases;
  • Provides alternative resolutions to students seeking conflict resolution through mediation or restorative justice.

2. Education and Programming:

  • Work collaboratively to create and present proactive educational workshops, presentations, and programs designed to increase community awareness of and adherence to College polies;
  • Implement educations initiatives to prevent first-time violations and decrease recidivism;
  • Collaborate with faculty to incorporate curriculum infusion and conduct presentations into First Year Studies and related academic courses;
  • Implement evidence-based programs to use for individual and group alcohol and drug educational sanctions, such as BASICS and CHOICES;
  • Consult with the Director of Student Conduct to evaluate the effectiveness of student conduct sanctions to improve services.

3. Administrative Support:

  • Foster sanction compliance and hold students accountable for completing outstanding sanctions and assignments;
  • Support Director in record requests, record reviews, readmit applications, and online Community Standards software management;
  • Manage Report Review Meetings when Director is unavailable and assist Director in case management of other hearing officers;
  • Participate as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) when Director is unavailable. Conduct BIT follow-up with students when requested;
  • Other duties as assigned to support the Office of Community Standards & Accountability and the Division of Student Affairs

Additional Functions:

  • Serve as an active member of the Student Affairs team, assisting with College events to help with the recruitment and retention of students in order to achieve the students' and institution's educational goals;
  • Assist with management and updating of Community Standards website, database, portal, and other technology;
  • Participate in relevant conferences and seminars through attendance and provision of presentations. Subscribe to relevant listservs and publications;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor of his/her designee;
  • Must be available to work some night, evening and weekend hours

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • At least two (2) years general student affairs work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Community Standards; experience working with student conduct software.
