- This is a full-time, 12-month position responsible for the
counseling and assessment of students and alumni, developing and
implementing career programming and activities, and assisting the
department with employer development activities. This position is
an integral member of the Career Services office staff, the Career
Services Specialist – Career Counseling & Employer Development
is based in Lakewood but responsible for Georgian Court students
and alumni across multiple campuses. The role collaborates on joint
campus career events; works cooperatively with fellow staff members
on projects designated by the Director and liaises with faculty,
administration, staff and employers.
Essential Functions:
- Advise students and alumni on all areas of career development and career management including resume writing, interviewing & presentation skills, job search techniques and networking. Familiarize students with Career Services resources.
- Meet with students and alumni, to assist with career related needs, in person and virtually either by phone or video conference technology.
- Administer and interpret career assessments to properly advise students and alumni.
- Review and critique resumes.
- Conduct mock interviews to enhance students interviewing skills.
- Develops and maintains relationships with employers in Healthcare and Human Services, resulting in community service, internship and post-graduation work opportunities for students.
- Develop and provide career-related workshops, class presentations, orientations, and additional outreach programs to student organizations.
- Collaborate with the Director to integrate labor market, employer and recruitment information into students' career management activities, including but not limited to the internship search process and the internship work experience itself.
- In conjunction with the Career Services team members, create and implement outreach and communications initiatives to increase Career Services visibility among students and build strong cooperative relationships with faculty, administration, alumni and employers.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration on career-related issues.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the Career Fairs and Networking Events. Participate as part of a team in hosting employer-related events.
- Develop and implement one new career education program per semester. And secure five new employer contacts each semester.
- Contribute to the development and realization of the office mission.
- Participate in the Career Services office at Admissions Open Houses, Student Affairs orientation programs, Commencement, Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, Mass of the Holy Spirit and other college-wide events - events may occur on the weekend or evenings.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned by the Director of Career Services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in career services, higher education, student personnel administration, human resources, advising or related field required (internship may qualify as one year of experience).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to manage multiple projects.
- Knowledge of career development theories, practices and career assessment tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel programs. Knowledge of College Central Network, Career Search tools preferred.
- Must be available to work some weekend and evening hours.
