General Description:

The Physics Department at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin September 1, 2022.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Duties include teaching six courses per year, scholarship, and service to the department, the university, and the community. Teaching responsibilities will include a variety of lower- and upper-division courses offered by the department. Other duties include mentoring and advising undergraduate majors, participation in departmental and university governance, and ongoing professional development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The successful applicant should have the demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to show promise in:
  • Teaching introductory and upper-level physics courses;
  • Being an innovative and effective classroom instructor;
  • Teaching students from diverse backgrounds, including women and members of underrepresented minority groups, in a university setting;
  • Demonstrating continued accomplishment in scholarship.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics or related discipline. ABD will be considered, but Ph.D. must be in hand by September 1, 2022.
