Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
The Division for Health Sciences Diversity invites applicants to apply for the Associate Director position. Reporting to the Director of the Division for Health Sciences Diversity, the Associate Director will be responsible for managing the core functions of VCU’s Health Sciences Pipeline Programs and will aid in furthering the division’s capacity for facilitating interprofessional partnerships across the landscape of healthcare careers. This involves ensuring that in the development of programs/projects, evaluation measures must align programmatic outcomes with the targeted objectives of the University’s campus-wide strategic planning (e.g., Quest 2025: Together We Transform, VCU Health Strategic Plan: Vision by Design, and the Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Action Plan).

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Overseeing the division’s strategic components such as academic coaching, student programming, and course instruction for Pipeline participants

– Supervises programming staff, and assists with the strategic planning of the division

– Promoting coalition-building among internal and external partners and other stakeholders in the communities served by the division

– Collaborating with admissions faculty and staff at each of VCU’s five health professions schools to implement strategies that enhance the quality of Pipeline program recruitment and contribute to successful student outcomes

– Assists with the collection and management of student data including student outcomes

– Providing support to the Director to ensure that division fiscal and administrative operations are executed in compliance with state and university policies and procedures

– Collaborating with the Division for Academic Success and the Office of Student Experience staff to develop academic support programs and services for Pipeline students Minimum Hiring Standards
– Master’s degree in a relevant field of study

– Professional experience in planning, implementing and evaluating student enrichment programs

– 2-5 years’ supervision experience and providing leadership to full-time employees as well as any of the following: part-time, temp, adjunct and/or graduate assistant

– Effective oral and written communication skills

– Ability to build teams and work collaboratively

– Presentation experience and demonstrated ability in leading discussions and training topics

– Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage several responsibilities at the same time, resolve problems using initiative and sound judgment

– Ability to meet multiple and changing deadlines as well as complete tasks with accuracy

– Ability to collect, interpret, and report data and to write informational materials and reports

– Knowledge of student learning theory and developmental outcomes, and experience in its application

– Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as an employee at VCU Preferred Hiring Standards
– Advanced degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or a related field

– Experience recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and advising diverse students

– Demonstrated commitment to creating learning environments and opportunities for diverse student populations in college environments

– Ability to approach staff training and development using intersectional framework, oversight of budget development and/or management, and advising student organizations in higher education
