Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties:
Teach field based undergraduate and online graduate courses in elementary reading and language arts methods, supervision of student teachers and other courses as assigned, advise students, engage in professional development and scholarship, and provide service within the school, university, and the profession. This is a campus-based position.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree
Discipline / Degree Area:
Elementary Langue Arts/Reading Education, Literacy or related field.
Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Note: An earned doctorate (or dissertation near completion with degree earned before appointment).
Required Minimum Work Experience:
Three years of K-12 teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Knowledge of literacy models, research, strategies, and practices.
Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and K-12 curriculum.
Knowledge of teacher evaluation models and systems, including program review at state and national levels.
Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information into classroom practice.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person and in writing.
Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level in face-to-face and online environments.
Ability to work with others.
Ability to successfully collaborate with public schools to create and to maintain field experiences in collaboration with the field experience director.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Early childhood experience.
Experience integrating social justice practices and culturally relevant pedagogy into methods courses or other professional contexts.
Successful university teaching experience.
Experience collaborating with public schools to create and maintain field experiences.
University service.
An established research agenda.
Knowledge of State of Michigan standards for teaching.
