Victoria University is seeking an exceptional, influential and commercially-minded leader to boldly envision and enact Victoria University’s commitment to applied research with impact and protecting people, place and planet.

Through a strong focus on innovation and working with others, this role will lead the creation of an applied research culture and workplace environment that attracts higher degree research talent, and the commensurate funding, to deliver creative, world leading impactful research that meets commercial and ethical objectives.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Impact will play a critical role in the enactment of our new Strategic Plan, 2022-2028: Start well, finish brilliantly, and in achieving our vision to be a global leader in dual sector learning and research by 2028.

The Opportunity

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Impact, as a key member of the Vice Chancellor’s executive team, will lead strategy, planning and operations of Victoria University’s (VU) applied research agenda through the provision of strategic leadership and by fostering enterprise-wide teamwork to leverage the dual sector nature of the university to develop innovative approaches to applied research, aligned to the expectations of industry, government and community partners.

This role is accountable for growing the university’s reputation in research and impact in the following key thematic areas for research, as identified in the Strategic Plan 2022 – 2028:

  1. Sport, wellness and health
  2. First Nations knowledge
  3. New generation skills and workforce impact
  4. Green research translation
  5. New frontiers in policy, advocacy and justice.

This role will also build and support the delivery of our protecting country strategy, which focuses on protecting people, place and planet and ensure that across the organisation, there is universal commitment to addressing the United Nations 17 global goals for sustainable development within a uniquely First Nations perspective. The role will be responsible for building understanding, evaluating, measuring and effectively communicating the impact of the work of the university in our communities, Australia and the world.

This role will identify, build, and support the development of partnerships and alliances with industry, government and the community to accelerate innovation and further enhance VU’s strategic applied research agenda.

Victoria University is committed to inclusion and diversity and to achieving gender equality in senior roles, and strongly encourages suitably qualified and experienced people to apply.
