Position Information

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Special Working Conditions: This position may have some evening and weekend hours.

Conditions of Employment

Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Director, Outreach and School Relations, the Enrollment Services Advisor provides timely and basic information, transactional, and general enrollment services for students and the campus community through walk-in, email, chat, and phone service requests. The Enrollment Services Toro One-Stop provides general advising for prospective, admitted and enrolled students under the Enrollment Services umbrella; Admission and Recruitment, Financial Aid and Scholarships and Registrars.

Qualifications

Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.

Required Experience: Equivalent of one (1) year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge and Abilities: Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.

Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

Responsibilities

75% - Using established guidelines, provides timely, general advising to all inquiring students to ensure that they can successfully navigate university policies and procedures to meet their enrollment goals. Provides routine advising and counsel to prospective and continuing students and their families on general CSUDH admissions process, financial aid and scholarships, new student orientation, registration enrollment processes. Advises, and informs eligible students about available resources, special programs and services such as EOP, AB540, Guardian Scholars, Dreamers, Veterans, Disability Services, etc. Responds to inquiries using various modalities, walk-in, phones, e-mails, and chat, etc. In advising students, utilize a combination of analytical and interpersonal skills and make appropriate recommendations when developing effective and creative solutions to student problems. When appropriate, work with students (and parents) using strong communication skills to explain university policies, identify student needs, and provide direction in helping students obtain resources and navigate challenges. Provide step-by-step instructions to empower students to better utilize online self-service in navigating policies and processes of the university.

20% - Build relationships with diverse, ethnic and inclusive student populations quickly by delivering personalized, constructive, engaging, motivating, and informative interactions. Maintain confidential information and provide information to management to foster continuous improvement of the student enrollment experience. Attend regular team meetings. Contribute as a team member to further the university's mission. Represent the Toro One-Stop at university events, workshops, presentations, etc. Attend and participate in professional development training offered by the university and professional organizations. Maintain current knowledge of Enrollment Service department policies and procedures. Utilize a holistic and integrated approach to enrollment advising.

5% - Other duties as assigned.
