Department Summary
The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is a billion-dollar initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries and the process of turning those discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation and beyond. The Knight Campus will reshape the higher education landscape in Oregon by training the next generations of scientists, forging tighter ties with industry and entrepreneurs and creating new educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.

The Knight Campus, along with the Human Physiology Department, will host a new program aimed to transform human health on a global scale through the discovery and translation of the biological principles underlying athletic performance. The design team behind the program is focused on accelerating high-impact advances in human performance by leveraging the rapidly advancing fields of bioengineering, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, genetics, molecular biology, imaging, and regenerative medicine.

Position Summary
The Research Associate in the Human Performance Initiative at the Knight Campus at the University of Oregon requires an individual who is self-motivated and has excellent organizational, research, and communication skills to participate in a variety of new and ongoing research activities. The Research Associate works closely with Associate Professor/Associate Director Nick Willett to design and implement lab research and assessment, seek and obtain external support for research activities, and publish results. The Research Associate will routinely perform animal care, surgeries, and implement novel treatments and technologies to enhance regenerative and performance related outcomes. The Research Associate will help manage a regenerative rehabilitation facility within the Human Performance Initiative to include systems to implement pre-clinical rehabilitation regimens and evaluate functional and behavioral related outcomes.

Minimum Requirements
  • Terminal degree in bioengineering, human physiology, biology or related field or DVM
  • Demonstrated research excellence in the area of human performance

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Bioengineering, Biology, Human Physiology, Chemistry or Physics
  • Demonstrated technical skills relevant to animal surgery
  • More than three years as a manager or project team leader in a research environment
  • More than three years engaged in research regulated by IACUC and AALAC regulations
