Job Summary:
This is a 40 hour per week exempt position. Responsible for providing academic, career, and transfer advising services to students to encourage and facilitate college retention, graduation and transfer, and personal, educational and occupational development.

Essential Functions:
1. Proactively advises students on course/program selection, scheduling, transfer, support programs and services in collaboration with College faculty and staff.2. Facilitates proper placement of students through interpretation of assessment scores and other measures of student performance. 3. Facilitates student referrals and the transition of students, both within and outside the institution. Responsible for understanding the whole student cycle; admissions, financial aid and registration.4. Collaborates in the identification, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and methods of service delivery to meet the needs of the students, and improve retention, graduation and transfer. 5. Collaborates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of orientation, advising and transfer information.
  1. Assists students in the preparation of college scholarship or financial aid applications, college appeals, transfer college applications, and related materials.
  2. Participates in public relations, presentations, and/or orientation efforts, which may involve work at college functions and visiting educational institutions.
  3. Monitors student progress utilizing a case management system and generates reports.
  4. Collaborates with faculty in assigned advising areas
  5. Create and update program mapping for designated specialty areas in conjunction with faculty
  6. Assist students in career decision making through interpretation of career assessments, online research and referral to speak with industry professionals.
  7. Participates in staff development and in-service training.
  8. Facilitates communication between departments to encourage student success.
  9. Serves on College committees at the discretion of Director of Advising
  10. Participates in project and staff evaluations.
  11. Responsible for assigned major focused caseload.
  12. Provides career counseling to assigned students. Administers and interprets results of career assessments.
  13. Responsible for mapping courses for each assigned student, semester by semester from start to transfer and/or graduation.
  14. Understands all facets of student services process-resignation, financial aid, admissions.
  15. Responsible for manual registration via Banner


Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned.

Accountabilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Director, Advising, is accountable for providing advising and referral services to students and prospective students to promote retention, graduation and transfer. Monitors student progress. Promotes a positive image of the department and the College.

Job Specifications:
Bachelors degree required. Master’s Degree preferred. A minimum of three years of teaching, academic advising and/or career counseling required - community college experience preferred. Experience in interpreting academic and career assessment measurements preferred. Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid procedures preferred. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required. Must be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff. Confidentiality required.
