Senior Communications Manager



Reporting to the Senior Director for University Communications & Public Relations, this position plays a vital role in envisioning, crafting, and distributing University content to diverse to audiences, as well as supporting enrollment management and institutional advancement goals. The Senior Communications Manager must be an excellent writer and a creative thinker who can manage a variety of projects from concept to execution.

Actively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify strategic communications and advance the University’s brand. Write, edit and manage content for various communications platforms, including web copy, social media, print publications, internal messaging and more. Plan and develop innovative content for the University’s primary social media accounts. Train and advise the managers of all secondary University social media accounts.

Support the University’s media relations goals by writing and editing news content for digital and print communications. Leverage news across a multiple internal and external communications channels. Serve as University’s secondary media spokesperson.

Essential functions will include:

  1. Research, write, and edit a variety of communications, including a campus-wide e-newsletter, web news releases, articles in the annual Universitas publication, executive bios, fact sheets, talking points, and opinion pieces.
  2. Innovatively foster interaction and build community to engage the public, including prospective students and families, on the University’s social media accounts, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok.
  3. Manage competing priorities and complex projects to support University communications goals.
  4. Assist with execution of the University communications plan by reporting metrics and analysis.
  5. Serve as secondary spokesperson and media contact for the University.


Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge: A bachelor's or master's degree in public relations, communications, marketing journalism or related field.
  • Experience: Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, communications, or journalism preferred. Experience in higher education, graphic design, photography and video production preferred.
  • Skills/Aptitude: Excellent research, writing, editing skills for a wide range of communications including social media, web copy, speeches, emergency notifications and internal communications. Strong ability to report social media metrics and analytics. Strong project management skills to achieve multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment. Excellent interpersonal skills; positive, energetic, enthusiastic, flexible and professional demeanor that represents NDMU’s core values. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders to implement the University’s communications goals. Photography, graphic design, and video production skills desired.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some nights and evenings may be required.
