Job Description Summary

Florida’s only public university exclusively teaching science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is looking for exceptional candidates to serve as the Fabrication Specialist in the Mechanical Engineering Department.

This position will provide fabrication assistance to student projects with curriculum connections and be a resource for Robotics Team program, capstone design, and other student activities. In close collaboration with staff and faculty in the mechanical engineering department, the position will serve as a point-of-contact for robotics-related activities and other student activities. The primary role will be facilitating fabrication, facility use, and organizational assistance that supports design and build activities.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with robotics and curriculum-based activities including fabrication of components, and safe usage and maintenance of facilities.
  • Collaborate with appropriate faculty and student organizations to promote diversity in involvement of student participation in robotics.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of all operating policies and procedures for robotics;
  • Conduct coaching and instruction activities for robotics including safety training, fabrication activities, and assist as a resource for competition rules.
  • Enforce safety procedures and code of conduct for all involved in robotics participants;
  • Assist with budget projections, ordering, and equipment recommendations;
  • Other duties, as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with customers and work as team member.
  • Clear and effective communicator and ability to keep project on-time, on-task.
  • Demonstrated wide range of hands-on fabrication skills and safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience with robotics focused team competitions (e.g., First Robotics) as either a player or a coach.
  • Ability to maintain schedules, facilitate team meetings, and help set realistic goals.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with hands-on fabrication and mechanical systems.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree preferred
  • Experience working with high school and/or college students.


REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

  • This position requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.


NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is full-time, temporary (OPS). The normal work schedule will be set upon hire, however, weekends and/or evenings will be required.

TARGET HIRING SALARY: $18.00 - $19.00, commensurate with experience.
