The Office of Benefit Services is seeking a Benefits Analyst who will report to the Manager of Benefits Compliance & Operations and will support areas that includes Compliance, Financial Management and Reporting, Plan Administration, Project Management, Communications and Vendor Management. This role will assist with the administration of existing benefit plans and the implementation of new benefit plans using established procedures. The Benefits Analyst will assist in the monitoring of benefit plans to ensure plans are administered in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage vendor funding requirements, remittances, premium payments for benefit plans and work with outside vendors to resolve issues with monthly invoicing and reconciliation of data. Assist with Employer/Vendor Site security access process.
  • Responsible for day-to-day administration of certain benefit plans, oversight of claims and required payments, identification of issues and will resolve routine day-to-day issues.
  • Support the Sr. Benefits Analyst to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws and government reporting and benefit plan audits.
  • Gather information for analyzation and auditing for retirement plans. Will provide record retention and maintenance of data as required.
  • Design, maintain and extract benefits reports from the university’s SAP system.
  • May produce and distribute employee communications to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws.
  • Manage organization and uploading of benefits-related documents on Benefits website.
  • Assist with benefits surveys.
  • Support Director and Manager of Benefits Compliance and Operations as needed

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Requires High School Diploma/GED(Bachelor’s degree preferred) and four years of progressively responsible experience in benefits administration or appropriate combination of education and experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Strong benefits administration and customer service background, preferably in a university setting.
  • Experience working with ERP system (SAP preferred), document management systems, software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, relational databases. Previous experience in high volume office atmosphere preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of benefit plans, policies, practices and laws.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to provide clear information on benefits policies and procedures to faculty, staff, retirees and university contacts.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Analytical and mathematical skills, ability to perform multiple tasks, work independently and exercise judgment.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and disseminate information accurately.
  • Ability to function under pressure and maintain a high level of decorum as well as to endure a high work volume and client demands.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in an appropriate manner.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • Experience working with ERP system (SAP preferred) and Microsoft Office suite.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
