The Ensemble Operations Department is seeking aProduction Services Manager (Technical Production Coordinator) who will report to the Director of Concert and Ensemble Operations. This role will be responsible to manage all technical aspects of Peabody concert and events for both the Conservatory and the Preparatory to support over 1000 events annually, including master classes, rehearsals, performances (music and dance), and student recitals including Opera Theater.

The Peabody Production Manager acts as a liaison among the various individuals involved in a production, including the conductor, artistic directors, musicians, dancers, technical department, and the concert and ensembles team to ensure an excellent and safe production.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Production Services Manager works to provide a professional and safe performance environment to the Peabody Institute students, faculty, staff, patrons, and guests.
  • Leads the production team in providing all stage, production, sound, lighting, and technical needs for the choral, dance, opera, instrumental and orchestral needs of all performance at Peabody to include, lighting, audio visual, administrative, live audio mixing, sound reinforcement, setting up A/V equipment, microphones, and all stage management.
  • Works in close partnership with the conductors, artistic directors, and students to support the event production, audio-visual, sound, and curricular needs of the school to achieve an excellent production and a quality learning opportunity.
  • Manages, reports, and tracks departmental budgets as well as provide oversight of individual large-scale production budgets in collaboration with Opera and Dance.
  • Supervises technical staff including hiring, training, and evaluating performance. Staff include 5 direct report staff and a crew of student workers.
  • Creates and develops necessary policies and procedures to improve the Production Departments ability to support the school’s events.
  • Enforces safety standards and preventative maintenance and training programs, enforcing school-wide policy and procedures while making recommendations as necessary.
  • Act as primary contact for all offsite production needs regarding logistics and arrangements for ensembles and operas.
  • Coordinate with Opera and Dance departments to ensure that any contracted scenery, lighting, video falls within budget and is executed safely.
  • Manage special events and one offs.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • 3 to 5 years of technical theater and management experience; BFA in theater or related professional experience preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of lighting, audio mixing, sound reinforcement, video, stage lighting, stage production and rigging. Ability to design and construct sets and technical lighting skills a plus.
  • Hours flexible and include daytime and evenings and weekends as appropriate to the staffing needs of the department.
  • Professional demeanor, superior communication skills, comfort in high-pressure situations, adaptable, solutions-oriented problem solver.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work long hours and nontraditional shifts: evenings and weekends due to performance schedule.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, Outlook, required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with digital media and video production.
  • Experience with Arts vision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
