Position Summary:

The Department of Medical History and Bioethics in the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the history of American public health. Applicants must have a Ph.D. by the start of the appointment and demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and scholarly research. The selected candidate will actively engage in the intellectual life of our faculty, who have diverse temporal, geographical, methodological, and disciplinary interests. A commitment to medical education, as well as undergraduate and graduate education, is essential. The successful candidate will engage in significant ongoing research and publication, and will offer courses at all levels, including introductory courses in the history of American public health, as well as other more specialized courses in the candidate's field of interest.

Principal Duties:

The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the 1) teaching of students, residents, and/or fellows, 2) service, and 3) scholarly research missions of UW Health, the School of Medicine and Public Health, the Department of Medical History and Bioethics. These duties will be performed at the following percentages: 40% Teaching, 20% Service, 40% Research.

An essential part of these duties will also be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. in History, History of Medicine, History of Science, or closely related field required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Relevant teaching experience required.

Must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and scholarly research. We will consider applicants specializing in any area of the history of American public health.
