Columbia-Greene Community College seeks a full-time, tenure track Computer Science and Cybersecurity Instructor/Assistant Professor dedicated to excellence in teaching who desires to become part of a creative, vibrant, student-centered learning community.  The ideal candidate will bring undergraduate teaching and industry experience and share the College's commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. Candidates should be interested in outcome-based assessment, quality improvement, community partnership, and faculty development.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any position.   • Provide the expertise, enthusiasm, knowledge, and skills to teach a range of Computer Science and Cybersecurity college level courses.  This includes familiarity with the principles and operation of technical cybersecurity on computers and networks, and related tools and processes, such as log analysis, packet sniffers, intrusion/breach detection/prevention, vulnerability scanning, and incident response. Coursework also includes computer informatics/hardware/software, programming languages and theories, operating systems, and network technology.
  • Maintain expertise in current teaching methodologies, technologies, and curricula while developing new instructional materials and techniques to meet the changing needs of students.
  • Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
  • Serve as a member of department, division, and college committees.
  • Engage students through posted office hours and electronic communication.
  • Utilize the college learning management system for course development, grading and communication.
  • Work with advisory committees.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to enhance instruction, curriculum, student success, and student completion.
  • Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs in a timely manner.
  • Participate in college and community activities.
  • Attend institutional meetings as required.
  • The college offers courses in the following modalities: On-campus (day/evening), Remote, Online, Hybrid, and HyFlex. Faculty may be required to teach a class in any of these formats.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of students.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity or closely related field.
  • Previous instructional experience preferred. Experience with on-line instruction desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and team building skills.
  • The ability to teach both theory based and hands-on courses.
  • Understanding of the mission vision and core values of a comprehensive two-year college. Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Non-teaching work experience in industry.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Interest in flexible course delivery options.
  • Experience working with underserved populations.

 

Salary and Benefit Information

Contractual salary and rank will be commensurate with education and work experience.
