Research Technologist

The Wang Laboratory is seeking a part-timeResearch Technologist to perform cutting-edge research into the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases. Start date is expected in November 2021. The laboratory is located within the Bloomberg School of Public Health and is dedicated to the study of mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases. Equally important to our mission is the training of the next generation of biomedical researchers.

The successful candidate will perform laboratory experiments with training and general supervision by the principal investigator. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on one or more of several projects available in the lab focusing on biological pathways related to neurodegenerative diseases

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    Performing laboratory experiments as part of a collaborative scientific team Documenting, compiling, and analyzing experimental data accurately Participating in regular lab and small group meetings Reporting findings in oral and written formats, including manuscripts Maintaining and organizing the lab, including keeping track of supplies and reagents, and ordering and stocking the lab

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology or another scientific field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s training preferred
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred
  • Prior research experience in a laboratory setting

  • We are looking for candidates who work well with others, are enthusiastic to learn, and motivated to contribute to the scientific and mentorship goals of the lab

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
