Position Purpose

Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director serves as a core member of the department’s management staff and has broad responsibilities that support the mission of the Collis Center for Student Involvement Office including: supervising staff and student employees, managing budgets, advising student groups and programs, and coordinating and facilitating student leadership training.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Manages and oversees undergraduate class activities through the advising and support of all Class Councils, including coordination and supervision of annual events such as the Bonfire build and sweep, class ring ceremony, and Senior Week.

Percentage of Time-25%

  • As part of the Student Involvement team, takes a leadership role in coordinating and facilitating major College annual events including Orientation, Homecoming/Bonfire, Winter Carnival, Green Key Weekend, Family Weekends, Graduation Gala and Candle Ceremony.

Percentage of Time-20%

  • Supervises one full-time Program Coordinator in Student Involvement

Percentage of Time-15%

  • Develops resources for students, clubs and organizations, and college departments including all aspects of event planning, campus programming, campus policy interpretation, and risk and financial management.

Percentage of Time-10%

  • Advises and supports the Special Programs and Events Committee (SPEC), providing advising to the student funding board, as well as campus organizations and partners navigating the funding process.

Percentage of Time-10%

  • As part of the Student Involvement team, coordinates and facilitates leadership development opportunities, especially related to effectively managing student organizations and coordinating and promoting events.

Percentage of Time-10%

  • Serve as departmental representative on various ad hoc and standing Divisional and College committees.

Percentage of Time-5%

  • Supports the marketing of programs and services to students through social media, websites, student organization management systems, etc.

Percentage of Time-5%

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications-Education and Years’ Experience

Master’s plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Required Qualifications-Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Master’s degree in related field or equivalent in experience.
  • 3-4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to work irregular and flexible hours.
  • Awareness of developmental issues of college-age students.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to fostering development of and building strong relationships with students.
  • Proven commitment to inclusion and accessibility and experience serving the needs of a diverse population.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in effectively working with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to address challenges collaboratively and creatively.
  • Demonstrated skills promoting pluralism and intercultural understanding.
  • Leadership, organizational and programming skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications        

  • Knowledge of the operation of sound, lighting, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic web design, Photoshop, and graphic design.
  • Knowledge of Dartmouth student community and programs.
