Summary/Objective

This position primarily serves as a recruiter for special constituencies in the School of Public Affairs (SPA). This position also serves as the academic advisor for graduate students in the Key Executive Leadership Master’s Degree in Public Administration and certificate program. The incumbent participates in campus activities related to the recruitment, conversion, and retention of graduate students who are part of special constituencies. The individual also provides quality academic support services to students as well as advises and counsels new, continuing, and non-degree students regarding their academic, professional, and career goals. The incumbent provides guidance on academic progress and other issues that affect academic performance, monitoring student progress. The incumbent is a key member of the recruitment team and also participates in advising meetings.

Essential Functions
  1. Graduate Recruiter for Special Constituencies: Cultivates and nurtures pipelines of prospective students that have been determined to enhance the diversity and overall composition of the graduate student community at SPA across on-campus master’s degrees. Primary groups include BA/MA and BA/MS students, Key MPA students, and other targeted affiliations as outlined as significant achieving SPA enrollment targets and/or degree-specific goals. Primary responsibilities include developing, implementing, and executing a strategic recruitment plan that outlines recruitment initiatives (specifically designed by target audience); application support; conversion, anti-melt, and onboarding activities; as well as reporting and evaluation methods.
  2. Academic Advising for Key MPA Students: Advises graduate students about meeting degree requirements; assists students with selection and registration of courses; addresses issues that affect academic performance; makes appropriate referrals to other university student services offices; communicates with faculty regarding students in academic distress or facing other issues; works with other university departments that support a diverse student body. Provides recommendations and solutions to streamline advising processes to improve students’ academic performance and to help increase student success and graduation. Monitors and evaluates each student’s academic progress throughout the year; assists students with the resolution of problems that arise after periodic degree audits, changes of major, graduation and other issues that come up in graduate academic affairs; conducts degree clearance for graduating students; maintains and updates student files. Attends SPA graduate advisor meetings and select student events.
  3. Academic Administrative Support for Key MPA Program: Schedule Key MPA classes as well as submits T&F forms. Prepares paperwork for adjunct appointments and re-appointments. Support NASPAA reaccreditation process.
  4. Other Duties: Performs other duties related to recruitment and advising of students.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
  • At least three years of relevant work experience are required
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree

  • Demonstrated understanding of a university environment including the organizational, governance, and regulatory structure of major colleges and universities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
