The Department of Engineering at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position, emphasizing in Electrical Engineering. This position will start Fall Semester or August 2022. The preferred candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and be expected to teach and develop lower and upper-level courses in our Electrical Engineering program. The Electrical Engineering program was recently added to our Mechanical Engineering program to meet market demand and fulfill the university’s mission. Responsibilities
  • Teach 24 credits of lecture and laboratory courses in electrical engineering and related engineering courses each academic year.
  • Involve undergraduate students in research and experiential-learning projects.
  • Contribute to the developing programs and emphases in Electrical Engineering.
  • Attend department, division, and college faculty meetings; work with other faculty in program management and adhere to university policy and procedures.
  • Perform defined campus-wide duties, including holding office hours, functioning as an advisor to students, and performing university service and scholarship as defined by academic policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Engineering is required, with Electrical Engineering being preferred. Candidates with degrees in a related field, such as Computer Engineering, will also be considered. Applicants who are ABD are invited to apply, if degree will be completed prior to August 2022.
  • Prior teaching experience in core electrical engineering courses preferred; candidates with adequate teaching assistant experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates with relevant industry experience preferred.
  • A strong commitment to and evidence of potential for excellence in teaching (finalists will be required to give a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other faculty, staff, and students and contribute to a collegial environment. Candidates should respect students and colleagues from all backgrounds, and should be an advocate for women, people of color, and other groups underrepresented in engineering.
  • Be strongly committed to the teacher-scholar model, maintaining high-quality teaching while also supporting research involving highly motivated undergraduates. An interest in active learning, experiential learning, and student engagement is desirable.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2022, with pay & benefits starting July 1, 2022. Annual base salary of $76,000+ depending upon qualifications & experience; additional compensation available for summer/overload teaching.
