West Virginia University Talent Strategy is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director.

About the Opportunity

As the Assistant Director of Talent Strategy, you will ensure institutional compliance with all federal, state, and university mandates related to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action. This position is also responsible for all aspects of the affirmative action plans for all campuses and collaborating with various offices and senior leaders to advance diversity and inclusion at the university.

You will be highly driven and comfortable working on multiple high-profile projects simultaneously and have the capacity to coach through complex work. The Assistant Director partners with the Director of Talent Strategy, Executive Recruiters, HR Partners, and the Talent Sourcing team to assist in the development and execution of talent acquisition strategy that aligns with WVU’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.

What you’ll do:

  • Work collaboratively with the Director, Talent Strategy to create and implement strategies for diversity hiring across the organization
  • Act as liaison to the HR Partners to ensure Partners have the support and resources to access affirmative action data
  • Provide leadership to the Talent Strategy team which includes leadership/staff development, talent and succession planning as well as managing members of the team instrumental to outreach and affirmative action reporting completion
  • Identify opportunities for increased efficiency/effectiveness within the recruiting process, working with Workforce Admin and the HR Partner team
  • Establish, maintain and communicate policies and procedures which ensure institutional compliance with all federal and state mandates pertaining to equal employment opportunity and affirmative action
  • Provide oversight for all aspects of WVU’s affirmative action plans, including, but not limited to, updating all plans annually, communicating the plan documents and goals associated with them, and training talent acquisition specialists, recruiters and HR Partners on interpretation of the plan and utilization of the goals
  • Collaborate with senior administrators and other offices, including the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, to identify specific strategies for maximizing the effectiveness of the affirmative action plans, and establish robust and sustainable programming to advance diversity and inclusion in their respective areas
  • Work in close partnership with talent acquisition specialists, inclusive outreach specialist and compensation analysts to ensure consistent application of search and hire processes for faculty and staff positions, including outreach and passive recruitment, selection and hiring, pay equity, and promotions and transfers
  • Implement plan for corrective action when institutional standards for affirmative action and equal employment opportunity are not met
  • Work proactively with those involved in employment functions across campus by providing regular opportunities to improve their knowledge base and skills pertaining to best practices in affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, and diversity. This includes developing and delivering trainings and presentations on relevant topics
  • Provide institutional leadership during affirmative action compliance reviews conducted by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP)
  • Remain current on all federal and state mandates pertaining to affirmative action and equal employment opportunity and update institutional policies and procedures, as necessary; communicate all updates to the Director of Talent Strategy, talent acquisition specialists, HR Partners and other necessary individuals, and provide direction on changes when appropriate
  • Maintain connections with network of professional colleagues and consultants to ensure access to the most up to date information on regulatory changes and evolution in best practice methods and represent WVU as being at the forefront of higher education institutions in terms of its AA/EEO and diversity programs
  • May be asked to handle high level recruiting searches to assist with the day to day aspects of Talent Strategy
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree preferred in business administration, industrial labor relations, public administration, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience: human resources, recruitment, or affirmative action, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship building and program design/implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, engage and lead members of the team.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to articulate and achieve meaningful goals within established time frames.
  • Ability to build relationships with senior leaders and provide consultation on challenging issues.
  • Ability to interact productively with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Effective facilitation of groups (committees, project teams, task forces).
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and large data sets to make and to recommend appropriate decisions.
  • Knowledge of mandates, policies, and best practices in EEO/AA and recruitment.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training and presentations on EEO/AA and diversity topics.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
