The Opportunity

The Journalism Department in the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) invites applications for a nine-month/twelve-month non-tenure lecturer to begin by Fall 2022. This appointment, renewable annually, has the opportunity for promotion to senior or master lecturer.

We seek an accomplished visual colleague who is:

  • Gifted behind the lens and committed to their role as a teacher and mentor.
  • An innovative professional and/or educator with the experience to teach the next generation of journalists to tell unforgettable visual stories and help them succeed in the fast-changing media landscape.
  • Nationally acclaimed in a distinguished specialization with the adaptability to integrate photo, video, multimedia, digital editing and social media into teaching.
  • Committed, with a demonstrated record, to sharing the authentic and inclusive stories of all members of our communities, particularly those historically underserved by our industries.
  • Well-versed in recent industry knowledge to guide students to publish on CJC’s news platforms and beyond, build distinctive portfolios, compete in Hearst Journalism Awards and other competitions and prepare for the business side of their careers.

A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in journalism or communications or a related field is preferred. Applicants must have at least five years of relevant professional experience. Preference will be given to applicants who provide evidence of teaching excellence.

The successful candidate must be committed to our diverse and inclusive environment and will serve as an instructor of undergraduate and graduate-level journalism and specialized topic courses each semester. S/he/they will also collaborate with news managers in the Innovation News Center (INC), our two-story, 14,000-square-foot hub for reporting and learning. The INC’s daily news, sports and weather operations allow students to produce for seven media properties including the local NPR, PBS and ESPN affiliates. The successful candidate should offer distinguished service to the department, college, university and profession.
