Job Summary/Basic Function

The Tell School of Music in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Millersville University welcomes applications for a full time instructor/assistant professor to teach applied commercial voice lessons in popular music styles (i.e Pop, R&B, Rock, Hip-Hop) to music majors and minors and coordinate the Voice Division. Additional responsibilities include ongoing professional/scholarly activity and service to the department and university. Other teaching responsibilities may include areas of expertise of the candidate or as needed by the department. Expectations include development and teaching of courses via distance education (online). The assignment may include evening and/or weekend classes and classes on and off the Millersville campus Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; and participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops.

  • A cover letter summarizing how the applicant’s education and experience match the required qualifications of the position.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with 10 additional semester hours of graduate credit in Vocal Performance or Vocal Pedagogy.
  • Significant professional performance experience in popular/commercial music styles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Vocal Pedagogy of popular/commercial music styles.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate the Vocal Division (i.e. sculpt curricula, schedule juries and recital hearings, adjudicate auditions, communicate effectively with the other voice instructors in the division).
    Expertise in vocal performance techniques utilizing technology.
  • Evidence of ability to teach diverse student populations.
  • Ability to conduct classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web enhanced or web-based formats.
  • Evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree ( ABD with doctorate required by the date of appointment or terminal degree ( MFA, DMA or PHD ) in Vocal Performance or Vocal Pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach applied commercial and classical music vocal styles.
