The Development Officer serves as an experienced fundraiser. This individual is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing a fund raising program(s) consistent with the fund raising campaigns and strategies of an institution. May coordinate volunteer staff or committees in support of fund raising activities. May be responsible for a specific intelligence operation program or managing the non-administrative day-to-day intelligence operations of a unit or be responsible for developing a particular ongoing solicitation program.

  • Develops measurable major gifts goals in conjunction with the Executive Director of Development and Alumni Engagement that reflect the priorities of academic and institutional leadership
  • Manages an ongoing portfolio of major gift prospects and creates a strategy for each stage of the fundraising pipeline
  • Conducts personal visits each year with major gift prospects ($10,000+) for the purposes of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Creates compelling, customized proposals for donor support and successfully closes gifts that contribute to annual goals
  • Solicits planned gifts from prospects, demonstrating a sound understanding of different planned giving vehicles
  • Partners with academic leadership to support strategic initiatives, including consistent data tracking and reporting
  • Partners with Stewardship and Retention staff to strengthen relationships with current donors
  • Collaborates with Prospect Research staff to create briefing materials for meetings with academic leadership
  • Travels frequently in order to build and maintain donor relationships and represent the University at various events

Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university

Previous experience of Major Gift or relationship management
Proven track record in fundraising, specifically donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and problem-solving skills
Ability to set and achieve fundraising goals
Competency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and donor tracking systems
