The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, for academic year 2022-23. The department seeks an archaeologist with expertise in environmental archaeology. Research foci may include, but are not limited to, political ecology, ontology, and inequality, including unequal resource distribution, ecological diversity/uniformity, and health. We are interested in candidates who collaborate with descendant communities and/or engage with applied projects. Applicants with expertise in one or several of the following are preferred: GIS, 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, and other digital applications in archaeology.

This hire is part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body and committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e. working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and the pursuit of external grants. Of special interest are candidates who can further the University’s efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We seek candidates with an excellent record of teaching and research, and a deep commitment to undergraduate education. Candidates will be expected to teach two courses per semester centered in the life/natural sciences, contribute to and develop interdisciplinary initiatives that enhance collaboration between Life and Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, Environmental Sustainability, and the Humanities, and serve on Departmental committees. The successful candidate is expected to pursue a strong research program, including the pursuit of external grants.

The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the time of appointment. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research, and student mentorship.
